WC Program and Nitro News

Here is the official program for the soon to be 2017 NAVIGA FSR World Champs in Jawor Poland.

BUT, the hosting organisation published a shocker of a news yesterday as the posted this info:

ANNOUNCEMENT ON CHECKING NITRO-METHANE CONTENT IN FUEL
(information added  2017-07-18)
As set by the FSR Section of NAVIGA, adopted at the last World Championships in Hagenwerder in 2015, the content of nitro-methane in modeling fuel can be as high as 23%. During this year's World Championships in Jawor will be conducted control of this indicator (CMB tester).

Today (July 20) they published an correction though:

CORRECTION ON CONTROLLING CONTENT NITROMETHAN
(information added  2017-07-20)
I inform that during the World Championship in Jawor tests of nitromethane percentage in competitors’ fuel will NOT be performed. I also apologize for posting the previous announcment pertaining to those tests. The small amount of time left until the Championship, and moreover not being able to use a certified device are basis of not following the rule of fuel tests. I apologize all competitors for the posted misleading information.
The Organiser

The excuse though is that they have no time to get a certified device to check the fuel with - NOT that it's NOT even a Naviga rule (regarding a limit of nitro)... Very strange.

Note also there is still NO info what so ever from NAVIGA themselves regarding this World Championships - neither on their website or on their Facebook page.

It looks like the organizers in Poland is running it by themselves so to speak or that NAVIGA doesn't care about the race...!?

Build pics of two KEP's FE-4S riggers

Build pics of two KEP's FE-4S (P-Open) Outriggers
Finally, Ive had some time to build myself a couple of KEP's FE-4S riggers. Note, these are built according to the Freebie plans I have published and it's a scratch built - not a kit.

Note, this post will be updated until the boats are done and tested.

Newer pictures on top - Earlier pics scroll down.

Updated Monday August 14 - Now one of them is tested!

Updated Saturday July 29:th:

Sponsons and "cowls" are 2K clear coated with Sikkens Autoclear HS Plus

Tubs are 2K clear coated

All painted parts are ready for 2K clear coat

Testing some possible new Hobbynox masking tapes also...

The bottom part of the sponsons will show the wood

Hobbynox Neon Pink.
(Note, all Hobbynox colors used here are pre-mixed with Hobbynox SP Intercoat-Clear)

The Hobbynox white painted parts will be covered with Hobbynox Neon Pink.

The Hobbynox Pearl Green is sprayed directly on the epoxy prepped plywood and it covers the wood gran well.

The Hobbynox Pearl Yellow is sprayed directly on the epoxy prepped plywood and as it's slightly transparent one can see the wood grain on the plywood through the paint...

Hobbynox airbrush colors are mixed with Hobbynox SP Intercoat-Clear to make them stick and flow better. The intercoat-clear is a 1-component polyurethane clear that makes the water-based paint much tougher and perfect for this application...

The upcoming new Hobbynox AS196AW airbrush compressor was perfect for this project!

Tested a maybe upcoming new Hobbynox HVLP spray-gun also with a 0.8 mm nozzle. It was perfect for booth the colors and clear coat. As it's a High Volume Low Pressure type of spray-gun the compressor is set at only 1Bar.

Ready for paint and clear. Note, the boat is not ready yet as in the sponson ride pads are not attached with double sided tape and the rear of the ski is up on the photo table curved part so it looks like the sponson ride pads have very low AoA...

The below pics are stage 1:

Quite happy how the "canopies" turned out

Glued with epoxy mixed with milled fiberglass

The canopy wood plugs are made of pu glued together 15x20 mm basswood strips. The four wood plugs are actually different.

Epoxied to a 1 mm plywood cowl base

Mold gelcoat

The combo FE canopy mold is wet sanded and polished with "autosol" and ready for waxing.

The blue stuff is a mold clay from R&G that is used to make a seal so the gelcoat doesnt creep between the wood plugs and the base and also in all corners. The plugs are held in place with thin double sided tape to the base plate.

Two layers of 80 g fiberglass + transparent epoxy gelcoat

Ski base is framed. All super glued (zap). The material is left overs from the sandwich material used for the tub sides and bulkheads as in 2 mm hard balsa with 1 mm plywood on each side

The skiis are done. Ready for epoxy sealing. Note they should NOT be glued to the tub! After paint/clear coat they are attached with double sided tape.

Quite a lot more things to be done...

Testing that everything fits before gluing the deck sheet. Castle Edge Lite esc with water cooling added. Mostly TP 4040 motors will be tested.

The sponson top chamfer is optional

Sponson bullet noses done

The sponsons are made out of a divinycell H60 laminated with 1 mm plywood on each side. PU glued used. Then they are rough cut and taped together with thin double sided tape while being shape and holes drilled.

The bottom step sheeting is done with cross ply plywood.

Nose blocks pre-shaped

I ran out of carbon sheet for the transom reinforcements so I used a 1 mm epoxy grp sheet instead. Epoxied in place.

90% shaped and sanded nose block made of glued together gaboon (okumé) plywood.

The tub is upside down. Servo mounts are made of 6 mm thick okumee (gaboon) plywood.

The tub hatch lip base glued on but not cut-out yet

The oval hole in the tub wide is for the power switch external loop

Dual k&s 3/16" brass tubes for cooling of the esc and motor separately if needed.

The electric layout.
