New OPS 90 "Bimetal"

A new OPS 15 cc engine is on its way... The comments it has got so far has been kind of mixed between its nice that there is more engine manufacturers on the market and that it looks kind of "week"... U be the judge. It will be interesting to see it in action though.

Updated 12/3-09: I've uploaded some new pictures today of the motor...

Updated 10/3-09: According to my sources the OPS 90 "Bi-Metal" engine is available from the Mantua factory now. The retail is €479 in Italy. The engine has a 5+3 ported sleeve which is manufactured as "bi-metal". It looks like the sleeve is std chromed brass but it has another sleeve on its outer diameter also...!? It looks like that outer sleeve is made out of aluminum but no info is available at the moment to confirm it.

March 19 update:
- Combustion chamber is for use with high nitro and use std threaded glowplugs
- The cylinder sleeve/liner is chromed brass with an ergal aluminum sleeve as in "bimetal"
- Piston: "vulcan" type (?)
- Crankshaft: Balanced with three weights (as you could see already on my pics)
- The conrod use needles as bearing
- New carb with 2-needles low & high-speed (the pictures doesnt show that carb though!?)
- Power output: 4.5-5 HP
- Capacity: 14.915 cc
- Stroke: 23 mm
- Bore: 28.72 mm
- Weight: 880 gr (including exhaust manifold, flywheel and "nut")

Update March 21: I got a picture of a ducted fan version of the new OPS90 from a German guy. He had measured the timing on that engine and it's exhaust: 180 deg, transfer/booster: 127 deg, drum intake: total 200 deg (35/55). I dont know if the timings in the marine version is the same though...

Send me a mail if you have tested it or any other related info about it. e-mail

Snowy Uppsala

As I've heard some complaints from a couple of you viewers regarding that the upload of pics etc takes a long time and that it seems like the blog freezes. I've changed the interface now so that "only" the last 10 blogs are visible at the default first page. As there also is some videos that are either uploaded by me on Blogger or embedded ones from Youtube I will change that to just link to those videos instead. Its likely that depending on your upload to Internet and how "busy" those sites are (that I linked to) makes it "freeze" - Im not shure but I hope thats the reason. Hope it works better for U now. :)

Remember to check the "Blog Archive" to the right -> if you want so see the earlier blogs. As I publish a new blog the 11:th blog will automatically go into the archive...

Take care, Niklas

Laces - 100s of ways to pimp your kicks

You may wonder what the heck this is...!? LOL

Yes I admit, its as far away from a fast RC boat one may go but its way cool. Trust U me... ;)

This is a really cool and unique book I found a couple of years ago about lacing your sneakers in hundreds of different ways. Ian Fieggen started his website about the same subject and then made this book with even more samples then what is shown on his site. It's a really nicely designed and superbly illustrated book about what U and me though was an easy task... ;)

Its a perfect gift!

In Sweden its found on Adlibris and its almost dirt cheap. Buy two.

Visit Ian Fieggen's site NOW. :)

Brad Christy Inline Twin 30 cc

The cowl is for reference only - it's a .45 cowl and is just to show the size of the rigger...

Brad also builds really fast riggers - this one is called "Mealstrom .180" I believe and its the home for the inline motor. Note the delrin engine mounts & sponson tube holders etc...

Link to Youtube video.

Brad Christy (USA) has made this awesome 30 cc Inline Twin engine. It will be raced also! The video shows the first start-up.

The design is based on the Geraghty/Hall manufactured twin .21 that Brad has scaled up to .180 size (30 cc) - see here below in an separate blogg for pics of the Twin .21.

Brad is the owner of Titan Racing Components / BlackJack Hydros. If you want the best "Crapshooter" .21 his BlackJack .21 is as fine as they come. He's an awesome craftsman and he not only makes all his hardware for the riggers he sells himself but he can make you almost any piston etc that you may want to your nitro engine.

Too be continued...

IMPBA SAW .12 tunnel record holder

49.256MPH / 78.8KMH

A geared Novarossi .12 motor on a K&B lower unit.

The current US IMPBA SAW record .12 tunnel boat of David Hall. In November 2006 he set the record at 49.256MPH (78.8KMH) with this boat. The boat is made and designed by Tommy Lee and Rod Geragthy - the gearbox is machined by David himself and the lower unit by Rod.

Pics from Rod Geraghty.

Hall / Geraghty Performance

Billet .45 OTB engine by Hall/Geraghty.

A Billet .45 outboard engine. David Hall has done all machining and Rod Geraghty has made the fuel injection system for it.

Some more cool engine project pics from Rod Geraghty. This is a billet Hall/Geraghty .21 engine with the same type of crank-bell induction system as the twin .21 here below. Machine work as usual by David Hall.

Rod Geraghty Twin .21

I had a nice talk of the phone with the legendary Rod Geraghty a couple of days ago. I really like his thinking and just basically to keep things simple etc. Well he sent me some pics of his twin engine project he did a few years ago with his friend David Hall. Its basically two P/L sets from .12 engines that is de-stroked to make it a .21. I don't think the beast has been in a boat though but Rod told me they had it on the bench revving some 45K+ without any failures. Way cool.
