JAE .45G - 2011 edition

The J.A.E. Racing gang have just released the new 2011 edition of their JAE .45G outrigger!

JAE .45G 2011 spec:
  • The tub is shorter, narrower, higher above the water and with a updated lower side profile.
  • The after-plane is shorter (T.E. of ski vs T.E. of front sponson ride pads).
  • The rear ski is wider (1.43" now vs 1-3/16"" earlier).
  • The front sponson ride pads have less AoA (now aprox 4.4 deg).
  • The front sponsons upper deck has more negative AoA.
  • The front sponsons are longer (especially towards the rear).
Here you can find some info about the first JAE .45HG version.

As usual, save the pdf's on your favorite storage media (like an USB stick) and go to a printshop (Kinkos or reprographic print shop etc) and have them print the pdfs in 1:1 scale on 30" x 42" paper.

Go fast - turn right! :)

Here is a new comparison picture with the two JAE .45 riggers on top of each other. They are aligned from the trailing edge of the ski as its the rear most contact point of the boat.
  • The new 2011 JAE .45G is the black one.
  • The earlier JAE .45HG is the blue one.

JAE GAS prototype in testing

Update March 17 - YouTube Video!
"This video was taken Saturday march 13 (2010) during the test session in Huntsville. The boat is the prototype JAE gas boat with a “box stock” RCMK rear exhaust motor [the motor is turning 16,600 rpm]. The only smooth water was right in front of the drivers stand. This video does not do justice as to how rough the water was during this test run. The wind was blowing across the course from the drivers backs...That is why the water is smoother right in front of the drivers stand. The boat isn’t hopping, it is being “launched” off the tops of the rollers... We are pleased to say the new JAE gas boat does absolutely nothing stupid in any water conditions! ;)

This run was with a Voodoo 7520 prop. We have several 3” plus diameter props coming to try and all indications are that 75 mph (120 kmh) will be attainable with this JAE/”box stock” RCMK combo [we haven’t even set the head clearance in this motor yet].

We have another gas boat prototype in construction and the same tests will be run with a “box stock” 260 Zenoah.

Note: Once again, the only adjustments required on this boat are prop selection, pipe length and needle valve. / Rod Geraghty"

"These are some pictures of the 1st test run of the JAE Gas Rigger prototype speed was 65mph on the radar gun with full length rudder that needs to be shortened and also needs a smaller turnfin and more prop than we had with us it turned a 1667 with no problem. This was with a STOCK RCMK EVO rear exhuast. The boat really handled well you could put it right on the buoys or out wide it was a very well manered hydro no bad habits. Looking forward to finding the right prop and racing it this season. The guy holding the JAE gas hydro is David Hall the designer/builder. He also has another JAE Prototype designed for the Zenoah."

JAE .12G (formerly known as JAP .12G)

Great news from USA. :)

J
ack Ass Performance changes it's name to "JAE" and makes the .12G outrigger hydroplane that I published as drawings earlier as a CNC cut wood & foam kit.

The kits will be sold by Zippkits.com in the US and there will also be a build service (in the US) by Mike Crawford of Woodstuff tunnels. Scroll down this page for more info of this fast nitro rigger!

If you like to build and cut it yourself you can find the earlier info HERE.

There will also be some JAE .21 & .45's and maybe also a Gas rigger as plans and kits - Stay Tuned more more info of these riggers!

This is a quoted text from Rod Geraghty in a forum thread at International Waters forum where he presented us with the news:

"Some history.

Nine years ago David Hall and myself started talking about building a dirt simple competitive outrigger hydro. We had moderate success but that effort kind of fell off our "hot" priorities list.

About 3 years ago our interest in the boat design once again re-surfaced.
Over a year ago now a totally accidental joint venture was formed with David Hall, Ron Zaker Jr., Martin Truex Jr. and myself. The common thread we all had was to go fast in all kinds of water with a stable simple outrigger hydro. We have learned a lot and the performance of the boat has been nothing short of amazing. The result of this joint venture was the release of the JAP .12G plans (se HERE). The interest in those plans has been phenomenal. I am guessing that somewhere between 500 & 600 sets of these plans have been downloaded all over the world.

Now for the last 3 weeks... J.A.P. [Jack Ass Performance] has officially changed our name to JAE , AKA "J" boats. The JAP .12G is now the JAE .12G.
What does JAE mean? We will never tell... :D It means whatever you think it means...;)

Here is the news:

The JAE .12G will be offered as a CNC precut plywood and foam kit from Zippkits for a introductory price of $39.00 + shipping!

Included will be solid fiberglass boom tubes with an illustrated instruction manual.
Zippkits sells boat kits all over the world and we did not want the name JackAss Performance to get in the way of the offering of these kits to the RC boater. I am presently building the first kit from Zippkits and I will tell you this is a quality kit.

Go to ZippKits.com

Presently there are prototypes of a .21H [Hall], a .21G [Geraghty], a .21T [Truex] & a .45H [Hall] JAE boats on the water being tortured. Also as we speak there is also a "gas" JAE boat on the building jig.

We cannot speak for Zippkits but it is JAE's eventual hope to have a line of competitive inexpensive wood/foam rigger kits and or plans available for the RC model boater to experience the fun of building and running RC raceboats.

For those of you who are not comfortable with your building skills, Mike Crawford of Woodstuff tunnels [1-262-210-9403] will be offering a building service for the line of JAE racing hulls.

We don't have an exact release date for the JAE.12G from Zippkits but I do know it will be very soon.. ;)

JAE is a "very non-profit" [not one red cent] joint venture, hence this posting in the outrigger hydro forum. :)

Hall / Geraghty Performance

Billet .45 OTB engine by Hall/Geraghty.

A Billet .45 outboard engine. David Hall has done all machining and Rod Geraghty has made the fuel injection system for it.

Some more cool engine project pics from Rod Geraghty. This is a billet Hall/Geraghty .21 engine with the same type of crank-bell induction system as the twin .21 here below. Machine work as usual by David Hall.
